Operators can meet the custom video requirements of MDU and small businesses and expand their revenue with the ARRIS HEMi® Head End Micro solution. The HEMi is a fully-integrated, digital-video solution for local and edge channel insertion in MDUs and closed-community markets. Based upon single-pass compression algorithms, the cost-effective HEMi is a unified multi-channel encoder, multiplexer, modulator, and upconverter. The HEMi solution seamlessly inserts locally-encoded channels into an existing all-digital network, allowing operators to add new channels or replace existing channels within a QAM. An integrated RF bypass switch protects the network from service interruptions and the intelligent QAM protection minimizes or prevents bandwidth over-provisioning. HEMi platforms scale from one to nine channels in a three rack-unit chassis and support up to nine services into a single QAM channel. High-efficiency, high-performance MPEG-2 CBR encoding and flexibility infrequency for down conversions and up conversions enable operators to support an all-digital rollout while continuing to meet target SLAs. An embedded multiplexer with add/drop channel replacement capability combined with remote monitoring, management, and software upgradeability add to the platform’s flexibility. GUI-driven configuration and management plus SNMP-based alarms and traps give operations maximum reliability, flexibility, and maintainability. The HEMi solution offers excellent price-performance in small-community applications.

HEMi™ seamlessly inserts locally encoded channels into an existing all digital network allowing operators to optimize the network by adding new channels or replacing existing digital channels within a QAM. The integrated RF Bypass switch protects the network against interruptions in service while the intelligent QAM protection defends the network channels from possible bandwidth over provisioning. HEMi™ enables operators to meet basic contractual obligations while supporting an all digital rollout by converting existing local channels to digital.
