The ARRIS n5 is the third-generation of ARRIS video servers to come to market and the first of its kind to use balanced solid state and disk technology for content storage. Building on ARRIS's history in supercomputer development and strengths in traditional disk-based hypercube video servers and high-performance RAM subsystems, the n5 is the first in a line of fully configurable RAM/Disk based systems. The n5 achieves maximal performance at minimal cost, by varying the system configuration in three dimensions (disk, RAM, streaming engines) configured independently, no matter what your mix of requirements.
The n5 is a graceful evolution of the existing ARRIS commercial VOD server, rather than a high-risk revolutionary design. Stability and predictability are the safety factors required to ensure success and lower operating costs for your VOD installation. The interoperable design of ARRIS solutions allows side-by-side operation of the new n5, earlier ARRIS video servers, and even third-party video servers-in the same deployment, feeding the same subscribers, and sharing the streaming load. The add-on flexibility of the n5 provides operators with a cost saving alternative to full replacement upgrades.
